04. Picnic in a Storm

from Chasing Time by Ryan Yard

/

about

There's a great deal of the solo violinist's emotion and interpretation evident in this piece, with heartfelt vibrato and gorgeous bow control making every note confide a great secret in the listener. The main theme is re-examined in harmony before the piano signals a change in the weather. Foreboding rhythm builds ominously before the strings burst back through the rumbling bass notes of the piano, piercing and bold. As the storm passes, the motif is glimpsed again, like blue sky through brightening clouds.
